Do you have emotional baggage from a past relationship? Do you need someone who understands how hard it can be to ask for help; not take sides; someone who will listen and offer practical suggestions; someone who doesn't want you dependent? You may be looking for Don Boice.
Welcome to Boice Counseling
He's the go-to-guy for resolving conflict. You can have disagreements and be respectful, where both walk away with their dignity intact.
Life Long Learning
Don's learning is designed to specifically address issues of his clients. You benefit from his education and his enjoyment of learning. Don Boice has a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania, took multiple years of Couples workshops at Harvard Continuing Education and is licensed in New York as a Clinical Social Worker. He uses the insights from many different researchers and most frequently uses resources from multiple trainings with John Gottman, PhD. He is research- based, practical, the information is immediately applicable and he gives handouts to help you take the information with you.
Don is a voracious reader and consumer of information, always going to training. Since he started counseling in 1989, he has worked with people in conflict and found ways to help them have good, productive, efficient, less toxic arguments. It is not always about just reducing conflict, sometimes it is about sacred sexuality, enlightenment through intimacy, getting the spark back, enhancing emotional connection, increasing courage to have difficult conversations and how to negotiate to get your needs met.
Affair training by the Gottmans lead to a more systematic approach to couples who have been through it, from the Cascade, to a workbook and this article Can My Marriage Survive an Affair?
He founded Boice Counseling in Irondequoit in 2007 after having had a private practice from 1999 to 2002 and working in different agencies. Over the past few decades, Don has counseled thousands of individuals and couples. *The "R" beside Don's name indicates that he accepts insurance for counseling issues that have medical necessity, including depression and anxiety.
He specializes in couples, with a focus on conflict resolution, affairs, sacred sexuality, enlightenment through ecstasy, understanding gender communication and creating an environment where both women and men feel comfortable to resolve their differences.
Contributions to the Field
Don's first book, entitled Top Notch Couples - The First Five Skills, provides understanding and practical advice to readers. He also wrote one dealing with the person who cheated, in an affair. His third book was a workbook for people with anxiety.
Don was interviewed for a magazine article about dating in your 50s, a podcast about affairs, and a few radio shows about relationship dynamics and dating in your 50s. He is rolling out his Sacred Sexuality Retreats, focusing on Enlightenment Through Ecstasy for couples who want to be more emotionally connected, improve communication about their sex life and improve performance. There doesn't have to be a problem to address your sex life.
He loves what he does and his purpose is to alleviate suffering wherever it occurs.
"Suffering is optional, pain is not."
